1. What year did you become involved/take on your current role in your Service Unit?
I cannot remember the exact year that I started as a service unit manager of 804, but I know I have done it for at least 15 or more years.
2. What troops are in your Service Unit?
Troops 8062, 8070, 8085, 8138, 8147, 8274, 8363, 8702, 8709, 8710, 8723, 8726, 8743, 8167, and 8295.
3. When and where does your Service Unit meet?
Our service unit meetings are on the first Tuesday of the month at 7 PM at Kingswood United Methodist Church at 5200 Perin Road Mobile, AL 36693 in Lacefield Hall.
4. What is your favorite type of Girl Scout activity?
We try to do a variety of activities throughout the year through the service unit. Such as a birthday celebration for Juliette Gordon Low, walking in the veterans day parade, camping at Sid Edmonds, a leader/daughter Christmas party, and Christmas caroling at an assisted living facility. We also have Camporee at Scoutshire Woods in March and a week-long day camp each summer where we invite any Girl Scout to come. The girls earn a journey and selected badges each year. We had a great investiture and rededication ceremony at the beginning of the school year this year, too.
5. What would you say your Service Unit is known for?
I cannot pick my favorite ones because I like them all, but I do love our Camporee and our thinking day events especially!
6. What do you look forward to the most in your role with the Service Unit?
I love being a service unit manager because I love working with the leaders and I love to plan and implement events that the girls enjoy. I love to do service projects that teach the girls to give back to the community and people less fortunate than they are.
7. What achievement are you most proud of when it comes to Girl Scouts?
I think what I’m most proud of is for all the girls that have come through troops in our service unit and go on to lead very successful lives. I love to get comments back from the girls, especially when they tell me that Girl Scouts was the best part of their childhood.
8. What is your favorite memory with Girl Scouts, either as a girl member, a Troop Coordinator, or in a Service Unit role?
I cannot give you any one favorite memory in my Girl Scout life as a girl or an adult because each year brings on new memories and those are my favorite for that time.
