Meet The Service Unit Coordinators: Rhonda Fields
What year did you become involved/take on your current role in your SU?
1999-2000
What area does your SU cover?
Opelika, Beauregard, Beulah, Smith's Station, and Chambers County
What is your favorite type of GS activity?
Usually the outdoor stuff has been my favorite.
What is your SU's claim to fame? E.g., an event, involvement in the community, product sales, Highest Awards, etc.
We have a lot of long time volunteers, and in the past had some of the highest product sales numbers in the council.
What do you look forward to the most in your role with the SU?
Helping the volunteers and seeing the girls try new things, and hopefully saving the hut.
What achievement are you most proud of when it comes to Girl Scouts?
Having a Girl Scout hut that we have tried to preserve and knowing that I have done a lot to help other leaders.
What is your favorite memory with Girl Scouts, either as a girl member, a Troop leader, or in a SU role?
Camping with our troops when we used to do a SU campout, especially when I had a troop. Too many good memories to list them all but I really enjoyed doing leadership training and getting to know the leaders "back in the day".
In August 2024 Service Units 543 & 711 will merge into new Service Unit 710. Girl Scouts of Southern Alabama would like to thank Rhonda for her long tenure as Service Unit coordinator and continued commitment as a Girl Scout volunteer!
