What year did you become involved/take on your current role in your SU?
I started as co-service unit manager around 2013. I took over as SU Manager about 2018.
What area does your SU cover?
Prattville - Millbrook Troops: 9363, 9029, 9030, 9035, 9709, 9707, 9718, 9715
When and where does your SU meet?
Hopefully for the 2024-25 GS year we will met monthly, right now we have a private Facebook group and use email.
What is your favorite type of GS activity?
My favorite GS activity is camping and cooking. I love watching the girls build a fire and make their own food. Now that I have older scouts, the prep time is shorter and the food has definitely gotten better.
Is there anything in particular that your service unit is known for?
We have several troops that do community service. I hope to bring back the SU Camporee and World Thinking Day in 2024-2025 GS Year.
What do you look forward to the most in your role with the SU?
Mentoring the troop leaders and helping plan a Camporee and World Thinking Day in 2024-2025 GS Year.
What achievement are you most proud of when it comes to Girl Scouts?
I have a lot of personal achievements through Girl Scouts and I am able to see so many girls grow up and become young adult leaders. This GS year I was able to mentor my first Girl Scout who earned her Gold Award to completion. It has been rewarding to see everything she has accomplished and get to know her at a different level.
What is your favorite memory with Girl Scouts, either as a girl member, a Troop leader, or in a SU role?
As a Cadette Girl Scout in Missouri, we had a 2 week "Adventure" camp: we did a ropes course, spelunking, canoeing overnight, and backpacking with hammocks over 2 weeks. It was full of fun and adventure it is a fond memory. As a troop leader and SU manager, I like to provide girls the opportunity to try new things and get out of their comfort zone, but also I want them to enjoy doing things they love with Girl Scouts!
