1. What year did you become involved/take on your current role in your Service Unit?
2022
2. What area is included in your Service Unit?
Mainly Auburn AL. We have about 10 troops.
3. When and where does your Service Unit meet?
We meet once a month at the Girl Scout Hut in Auburn.
4. What is your favorite type of Girl Scout activity?
I like life skills. I think it is important for scouts to learn all different kinds of life skills from survival skills, to etiquette, to leadership, all the way to cooking for yourself. Going to college and living in a dorm opened my eyes to skills I would consider basic but some kids had never had to do. Their caregiver had always done their laundry or made the coffee in their house and they just had no clue how to live on their own. I love that GIrl Scouts has a wide range of badges and activities to cover a lot of skills.
5. What would you say your Service Unit is known for?
I'm not sure we have a claim to fame outside of cookies but I am hoping to start some new traditions that carry on for a long time. We did a trunk or treat this year and I would like to see that continue and grow into a loved community event.
6. What do you look forward to the most in your role with the Service Unit?
Growing the SU and sharing my love of Girl Scouts and volunteering with others.
7. What achievement are you most proud of when it comes to Girl Scouts?
My daughter is in 10th grade and Girl Scouts has really helped her grow and become responsible for herself. I'm proud she has been involved since kindergarten and has plans for a gold award.
8. What is your favorite memory with Girl Scouts, either as a girl member, a Troop Coordinator, or in a Service Unit role?
I think taking my troop on outings are some of my favorite memories. Nothing bonds girls and adults together more than a really cold /rainy camping trip!
